params.ini is unwritable

Hi,

I've used two of the templates so far (restaurant and furniture store) and I can't use the template editor (from admin, Extension Manager>hot_furniturestore).

When I make any changes, none of them take effect and I get the message "The parameter file /templates/hot_furniturestore/params.ini is unwritable." I did some research on this and I heard that the file needs to be changed to 0777 to make it writable. I did just that using filezilla and it's still giving me the same message that params.ini is unwritable.

I'm pretty sure this is a Joomla issue, but do you have any work around, other than changing the style sheets? I can modify the style sheets, but it's time consuming.

Any feedback you can provide will be much appreciated.

One more thing.

I eventually got Joomla to say that Params.ini is writable, but anytime I try to make a change and save it, it goes right back to being unwritable.

Is something on the Joomla side turning the permissions back to being unwritable?

Update:

So, I've been working on this still and made a call to GoDaddy, my host, to ask them if their server was turning the params file back to 555 after I changed it to 777. They said it isn't and it's Joomla.

They did say that the params.ini file could be manually edited, but works to a degree. I am able to change the width of the site, but none of the colors.

This is kind of frustrating that I can modify anything.

you can get that message although the parameters are saved, if not so you can do this:

1. Use your host Control Panel to change access permissions instead of ftp application. Option is usually called CHMOD.

2. With your text editor create an new file and save it as params.ini. Copy and paste original content of templates params.ini and overwrite file in your template folder using your ftp client or host control panel.

If you are using cPanel turn off hot-link protection.

One more thing , set the CHMOD 777 on template folder instead on params.ini file.

If nothing from last post helps use the JoomlaXplorer (install it if you already don't have it) and try to change permissions using it.

Dang... it didn't work.

I've put about five hours into this and something is still turning params.ini back to 555 after I switched it to 777.

I've used joomlaXplorer and Filezilla to change params.ini to 777.

I just worked with GoDaddy for about an hour and made the file's permissions 777, but Joomla still turned it back to 555.

I also over wrote params.ini with new copy (with the same pasted info), but that didn't work either...

And I'm not using cPanel, that I'm aware of.

This issue is kinda crazy.
