Check permissions of /administrator folder and sub-folders and files using cpanel's filemanager or whatever file manager you have with your hosting.

Hello,

I also experienced this event (unable to login to the Admin backend for Relief), getting a "403 Forbidden" when trying mysite.com/administrator page ... but the solution wasn't permissions, instead the .htaccess file that exists in the ../administrator subfolder of the installation: I renamed this file to disable/stop its actions and then the Joomla Admin Login GUI is presented (and I can login).

My Question/Concern: what is the purpose of this .htaccess in this subfolder? I do not find it in any of the other hot_abc_hotstart bundles, nor is it present in original Joomla! download packages.

More curious, is that after I first renamed it (to get to the Admin Login GUI), ALL of my other manually installed Joomla! sites (using either Relief or non-hotjoomlatemplates) presented the same 1) page errors and 2) Error Log messages (samples here):

1 - page errors:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/myacct/public_html/mysite.com/libraries/joomla/database/database/mysql.php on line 383
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/myacct/public_html/mysite.com/components/com_content/models/articles.php on line 486
Warning: mysql_num_rows() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /home/myacct/public_html/mysite.com/libraries/joomla/database/database/mysql.php on line 293

2 - Error Logs
[Thu Dec 20 07:20:49 2012] [error] [client 66.249.74.131] File does not exist: /home/myacct/public_html/sandbox/robots.txt

After checking with my host to confirm I wasn't being hacked somehow, and not finding much evidence of that, I returned and renamed this file (back to ".htaccess"), which again gave the "403", which I then (again) renamed to disable (to ".htacess_0"), and then all of those sites stopped throwing the page errors and Error Log messages ... HUH!?!?!

Can you explain what might have been happening to my sites based on these messages and my actions? Mostly would like to make sure I wasn't doing something that caused the initial "after renaming" errors.

Thank you,
Bob

.htaccess should be present only in joomla root (normally) if you have it in some sub-folder then it applies rules to that sub-folder. Maybe you accidentaly copied it there sometimes

Thanks, Ivan ...

Well, it exists in the hot_relief25_hotstart.zip that I downloaded (unpacked to my local drive or via CPanel on the site). But you are saying this isn't intended (to be there), so I'll simply remove (if I continue using this template ... the overall Club membership provides so much I couldn't resist the Platinum Plan!).

Best regards,
Bob
