Startup Time

Thanks to the other postings, I now have a working slider - I have even removed the strange black ribbon which has caused so much trouble for others as well.
My question relates to the time it takes before the first image appears on the screen.
I have a period of several seconds where all that is showing is a white background, before any image appears.
I have played with the time delay between changing the images, but cannot seem to improve on the first showing.
If this is just an inevitable delay in processing the code, then is there some way of having a default image always showing for when the page is first viewed?

Sorry, but it is only on my local WAMP site at the moment, so should be realy fast. It actually takes about 3 seconds when returning from any other page to the home page, before the first image appears.

I would need to have an look
