I think that it's not a bug, it' a feature :)
If you look at the demo you'll see same thing happens with shadow, because there is two divs with the same shadow pattern - and yes, the shaddow breaks between.

If you look at the image with chefs in the template:

You'll see its dimension is 322x316 and your custom image at the same position is 322x326.

Maybe it was the problem in the first place.

No.
For carousel module not be aligned to the left picture.

But now, you've made some changes in CSS and I'm not sure that proper image size (chefs) would make any change.

I've install this template at my local server, then replace chefs.png in templates\hot_restaurant\images\ folder with your image with fixed dimensions (322x316) and, without any CSS changing, it looks as in the demo.

When you change template to suit your needs you must use the images with same dimensions to achieve the exact layout from original template.
