White space in unfilled positions

Hi

I'm using one of your templates for the first time. On my home page

(in test environment only at the moment) I have a white space where the User1, User2 and inset positions are but there is no published module populating these positions.

What could be the cause of this problem? I have spent hours trying to figure it out. the Div class is .content_pad_noright seems there is padding: 30px; set in layout.css

If I change the padding to zero, will it break something on other pages where these positions may be used?

Check if your home page menu item type is "Featured Articles" and you don't have any featured articles

My home page is "Featured Articles" However, I am using K2 and I changed it so no articles were "featured" and still white space appeared.
I also checked the Joomla (non-K2) articles and all are unpublished and none featured. URL is

Any other ideas?

Actually, I've moved some modules around to different positions and some unexpected things are happening:

I have put a K2 item in the left position (showing OK although bullet points are a problem) To the right of this I want the home page slideshow, so I placed the module containing it (Module mod_hot_newsflash with 700px width) in the 'inset' position. it should fit to the right but instead is appearing below the left module.
The K2 item below it is also not moving up next to the 'left' positioned content. On other pages in the site, this doesn't happen.

I do not have any "featured" articles or items.

Also, the left module is longer than it should be. Can you tell me how to fix these problems?

I've worked out that it's the k2 item below the slideshow that is causing the problem. If I unpublish it, the slideshow moves into correct place.

Still can't work out why though..
