Subcategories and Products

Hi,

Is there a way to configure the categories to show on the webpages as listed below?

Category: Office Furniture
Sub-Category1: Office Furniture/Desks
Sub-Category2: Office Furniture/Chairs
Sub-Category3: Office Furniture/Tables

Products
Sub-Category1: Office Furniture/Desks/ Product Desk1
Sub-Category1: Office Furniture/Desks/ Product Desk2

Sub-Category2: Office Furniture/Chairs/ Product Chair 1
Sub-Category2: Office Furniture/Chairs/ Product Chair 2

I want to be able to select Office Furniture on the home page and get a list of sub-categories on a page (Desks, Chairs, Tables). Then the sub-categories will give a list of products (Desk1, Desk2 or Chair1, Chair2) . Then I can select the details of each of these products to display on a page.

I have the sub categories already created but when i create the different products for the sub categories they all show up under the main category (office Furniture).

Yes, you can create categories and subcategories within VirtueMart component. Then insert products into the new create categories and subcategories.

Thanks for responding. The client now wants me to have a page listing all their product categories as well as sub categories.
So the only way I can get it to work is to duplicate the product categories.

Category1: Office Furniture
Sub-Category1: Office Furniture/Desks
Sub-Category2: Office Furniture/Chairs
Sub-Category3: Office Furniture/Tables

Category2: View All Products
Sub-Category2.1: View All Products/Desks
Sub-Category2.2: View All Products/Chairs
Sub-Category2.3: View All Products/Tables
Sub-Category2.4: View All Products/Stationery Supplies
Sub-Category2.5: View All Products/Other Products

MENU MANAGER
Office Furniture
--- Menu Item Type: VirtueMart Categories Layout
--- Select a category: Office Furniture

All products
-- Menu Item Type: VirtueMart Categories Layout
--- Select a category: View All Products


If you know of a better structure to do this without the duplicates would appreciate it.

You don't have to duplicate products. VirtueMart 2 allows you to publish a product into several categories. So, if you publish it in both category and subcategory, it'll appear in both places.
