How to amend Login Form

Please advise how to customize the login form - I wanted to change the wordings from English to French.

First I suppose you have multilingual site.

French language package should contain translations for that.
Note that there are joomla and vm language packages you need both of them.

Files you need:

language\fr-FR\fr-FR.com_users.ini
language\fr-FR\fr-FR.mod_login.ini

I have got the language translator installed successfully. But (please refer to attached screenshot
) I need to amend the wordings in both the login form and in the module for number of members/guests online.

Ok, that means you dont have french language pack installed (for joomla) . You you check that
