User 5-8 extension missing

hi,

i have tried to add a dummy with <br>s, with some dummy text horzontal and vertical (empty modul, position left), adding a menu to frontpage (menu, position left) - doesn't work.

but i found some interesting differences between the behaviour of the hot installation and my "cold" one:

hot: article is marked for frontpage but not shwon
cold: is shown but under the user positions 5 and 7

same with the mainmenu (left) - not shown (when i add it i see it behind position 5..)

i will go on trying - if i am not successfull, i will upload it to webspace.

edit: in the hot installation i disabled everything i did not see (only showing HOT Newsflash, Home Left Menu, Home Right Menu) - still working fine. I'll now try it with a new installation of joomla.

Wrong configuration of the startpage is the reason!

i got one more problem related to this:
when i open my testpage on localhost/sofatest (that's the url) it loads as before (=not as expected).
it only works as it should when i open it with localhost/sofatest/index.php/startseite (startseite=home)

is there a way to make joomla open localhost/sofatest like localhost/sofatest/index.php/startseite?

for usage in internet i could imagine that one could give the domain the long path to bypass the problem.

i am wondering nobody else seems to have this problem..

If it's diffrent that is maybe not same page?
Silly to ask but mybe you did not refresh localhost/sofatest?
When you turn off SEO frendly Url's , what is then link to startseite?

it is refreshed. it is the same with SEO friendly urls turned off.
http://localhost/sofatest/ (link to directory)
http://localhost/sofatest/index.php/startseite (link to correct layout)

for the site to look like the hot installation it is necessary to change the options for the startpage as i posted before (at least in my case). i think it is the same page with different settings. so where can i change the settings? maybe i have to ask in an joomla forum..?

We can't help you this way very much because we can not see you site, but i think best for you would be to setup joomla again using hot-start and then change existing demo content.
