Thanks for the snipit, but I'm not a programmer and don't feel comfortable "hacking" template code.

It would be nice if it just worked the way it's supposed to.

You are not hacking anything. You are just opening a simple php file in Notepad and change 3 letters. There's no other way to achieve that.

Can I add a selectable "Style X" to the list?

If I rename Style 1, will it break the template?

No, you can't do that. You can create style variants in Joomla 1.6/1.7 and assign them to appropriate menu items. This feature is not available in Joomla 1.5.
