Hi, I wonder if you can offer me a hint?
(not found the answer on forum)

I have installed the "Sportal" on my home computer,
and see all articles and modules, but preview is taking a minute then is completely blank.

I am running XAMPP on Windows, with Joomla and its original samples, all that was fine before.

During the process of installing sample from HotJoomla I have selected a different name for the database, and later assigned that by Control Panel. Page like "off line" is presented fine.

What I did wrong? Where to look for this problem?

Cheers

Hi Hot Joomla,

I am responding to myself.

I have found that "Sportal" template is using the Feeds like:

rssurl=http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/rss.xml
rssurl=http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rss.xml
rssurl=http://sports.yahoo.com/tennis/rss.xml

and if the connection to the Internet (by my firewall) is blocked then your template doesn't work on the local machine,
as described above (blank-nothing-after ~30sec.)

WHY is that? Is there a good reason to stop entire web page from being served by Joomla if no RSS? I would like to know, just in case I want to use this feature later. Maybe you have some fixes for it?

A) I have disabled these pieces by Module Manager:
Soccer Feed
Basketball Feed
Tennis Feed
and the template works.

B) Also, after the "Hot Start" installation I had no folder
"\Demo" with the images. I copied that and template was finally fine.

WHY was that? - I would like to use it on the real server, will be the same problem?

cheers, cm

There would not be any problems on the real server. Anyway, the RSS links are put there as samples only. You are not forced to use those RSS links. You are not forced to use RSS modules at all. You can put other modules there that suit your needs better.

Hi, thanks for comments.
It is quite obvious that I will be interested to have RSS on the website. Why the page is not loaded at all wasn't really explained. Is the issue as described above a problem, is there any fix to make sure the page is loaded if the RSS source is not available any more?

If there is issue with RSS feed module, this is Joomla issue, and not our issue.

I can not confirm if this problem really exists as template loads properly for me, both on server and localhost.
