i followed the installation instructions, but I'd like to configure my directory or somehow do some redirecting so that users don't have to type in mysitename.com/hotstart to get to the home page

Use FTP software to move all files from folder "/hotstart" to the root folder "/". Then edit configuration.php file and change 2 paths (logs and tmp).
