Installation problems was created by Bucea
Hi,
I have recently purchased a copy of Hot Sportal.
I am performing a HOT Installation on a new web account.
After copying the files to the server I get an error when I try to install Joomla.

"An error has occurred.:

Cookies do not appear to be enabled on your browser client. You will not be able to install the application with this feature disabled. Alternatively, there could also be a problem with the server's session.save_path. If this is the case, please consult your hosting provider if you don't know how to check or fix this yourself.
"

I am using Mozila Firefox and my cookies are enabled. I have check in the Cpanel of my server and my PHP detals are:
session.name PHPSESSID PHPSESSID
session.referer_check no value no value
session.save_handler files files
session.save_path /tmp /tmp
session.serialize_handler php php
session.use_cookies On On
session.use_only_cookies Off Off
session.use_trans_sid 0 0

I have also added a php.ini file in my public_html directory which contains the line:
session.save_path = /tmp

Nothing seems to fix this problem.
You support in this matter is appreciated.
Alternatively I would like to perform a basic install which includes your test data, after I perform a Joomla install from my Fantastico package in Cpanel. You instructions regarding the basic install are identical to the Hot Install.

Please help!

No, you can't use Fantastico. Make sure that you uploaded files in the right place and that server is set up properly. Ask your hosting provider for help. Please watch this video as well: www.youtube.com/user/hotjoomla#p/a/u/1/tvSzwdQU6sY

What exactly do you mean by server setup correctly.

I have uploaded via FTP the files from the hot_portal_hotstart to my root directory, just like in your video tutorial. The only files in my root directory were in the cgi-bin folder.
My server seems to be setup correctly, but I still get the session.savepath error.

Perhaps you have some directories on server that are not writable. Those directories must be writable. I am not sure what exactly is that directory on your server, so you must consult your web hosting provider.

I have setup permission on my root directory ("public_html") to 777 during the upload of the hotstart. After the upload is completed I have to reset permissions to be able to access the web pages. All my files have 644 permission, the directories 755 permission and the root directory 750 permission.
After I reset the permissions in this way, The installation page comes up to prompt me for installation language, but with errors.
The error is the one noted in my initial post.

Why don't you start installation while "public_html" is set to 777? Can you install regular Joomla on this server. You can download it from htp://www.joomla.org

If you can't, I can't help you. You must ask hosting provider.
