Getting blank screens - Solved was created by toystory
I have installed the ecommerce hotstart as a new joomla install.

But when I delete the installation directory through ftp my screen just shows a white/blank page. This is on www.mysite.com and also www.mysite.com/administrator .

When i reupload the installation directory and refresh I see the joomla install page telling me:
PLEASE REMEMBER TO COMPLETELY
REMOVE THE INSTALLATION DIRECTORY.
You will not be able to proceed beyond this point until the installation directory has been removed. This is a security feature of Joomla!.

Any ideas what is going wrong?

Thanks

When you get to that page , delete /installation directory and then try to go to
www.mysite.com/index.php

(sorry but I must put note that there is directory named "installation" in joomla root and we are referring to it )

Maybe directory is not deleted and you don't see that. When you delete it disconnect and connect again with your ftp client.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I deleted installation directory and tried www.mysite.com/index.php and I am showing a blank/white page again.

Yes it was the installation directory in joomla root that I deleted.

I have disconnected and connected again with my ftp client and double checked the file is definitely gone. And I still have a completely blank page?

I guess my next option is to re download the hotstart.zip and start again at the beginning in case something has been corrupted along the way.

Any other ideas welcome.

Hi,

yes that should be next step.
If that does not help you should contact your hosting provider to help you. If you eliminate possibility that hot_start copy is bad then there is problem on server hosting.

When you copy h.s. again bes if you could upload whole zip to your web root and then unpack it using your hosting control panel (Almost all support that feature ) that way you are sure all files are there.

You must have MySQL server 5 for running VirtueMart. Ask your hosting provider for an upgrade.
