create direct link

Hi

i want to be able to create directs links for the content of my web

I mean, i want to edit this:

durangofiesta.com/index.php/cake-diseno-en-pasteles

to this:

durangofiesta.com/cake-diseno-en-pasteles

how can i do that???

I get 404 for second link

looks very easy, but i´m stuck on the step 4:

"4. Now, go to your htaccess.txt file at the root of your site and rename the file .htaccess. Use some sort of text editor (I use text wrangler) to remove the ‘#’ before the words ‘RewriteBase /

For me, this was around line 53 of the .htaccess file."

i just delete the "#" save and ftp the file, but does´nt work, i think i have to do that with "text wrangler" but i dont know how to use it...

can you help me to edit that file? PLEASE?
