Display problems in IE8

Hi

Im using sparky designing a website. all is well and working when i use firefox or chrome but in IE8 or in IE compatibility mode the website display is different.

I changed the <!--[if lt IE 9]> in inex.php to <!--[if lt IE 7]>

and the display looks fine with one difference: the footer color changes to dark grey.

could you please point me to the right direction.

We don't support ie8 and ie7(compatibility mode) since even Microsoft does not support them on it's sites.
