I think I was finally able to find out the source of the problem, and it wasn't about scripts, jQuery or other "usual suspects". I've installed a fresh Joomla 3.3.6 and Sparky, and then slowly proceeded with other configurations and extensions. The Dropdown menu was working at start, it passed a few extension installations and some config changes, but the moment I started turning my site to multilingual there was the problem - it was still ok when I enabled the language plugin, but it stopped working when I created language specific menus.
When I deleted the languge-specific menus the dropdown was working again.
I'm not sure, but I assume that the dropdown menu gets stuck with the way Joomla handels multilang content - there is one main menu with the default home page (which is actually not used at all, but has to be set), and a few language-specific menus, each with its own default home page. The existance of multiple default home pages is probably the thing that makes dropdown stop working, but all beyond that is a bit too much for me. I have no idea how this could be solved, but it is a real problem for me, since I need a multilang site and the dropdown menu.

I just tried it and it seems it's working.
I'll keep my finges crossed that it stays that way.
It obviosly makes a difference how the menu is named. I used to have menus named like "en-menu", "de-menu"... Is the "minus" sign causing the problem?

I just purchased Sparky pro and the menu's seem to have the same problem as this post, but I don't understand how to fix. Is there a simple method?

Specifically, only the horizontal menu shows dropdown items, but they need to drop down vertically not horizontally because they overlap and don't fit on the screen.
