Hot Install Issues

Cannot install the template locally. On my local server: set up new database. go through install process, then get "syntax" error for sql server.
Any help much appreciated.

Installed reg. Joomla 1.5, tried attaching the template, again all I get in the browser is the code. Database connects, but template without "Hot Install" will not work.
