How can I Update joomla 1.7 to 2.5

Hi
I want to update my joomla site from 1.7 to 2.5, so i have uploaded joomla new version 2.5 and tried to upload it instead of 1.7.

But there was an error uploading this file to the server.

May you help me to sort out this problem, please.

automatic update feature doesn't work, and I saw this page on Joomla site, but Couldn't find the folder on my server where Joomla is located (overwrite all files) to upload via FTP.

usually it's named public_html . Look at "Path to Temp Folder" parameter of joomla global config , there you can recognize path
