Best way to upgrade J4.4 to J5? was created by stleone
I have a site under development just updated to Joomla 4.4. What's the best procedure to update to Joomla 5, and do I need a Template update as well?

Hello,
You can update it normally. Everything should work without problems. Just make sure that you make a full site backup. Also, check if your server meets Joomla 5.0 requirements, otherwise it won’t let you update.
Regards,
Milos

Hello, I use the Sportal template.
If you upgrade to joomla 5, the frontend is no longer there.
The server meets the requirements and I use PHP 8.1
Error message:
Sorry, there was a problem we couldn't recover from.
What could be the reason?

Hello,
You must restore website from backups and try again. Maybe your MySQL server has old version, check this. You can also try PHP 8.2. Also, maybe one of the extensions you are using is not compatible with Joomla 5.0.

Milos

Hi Milos -
I just upgraded a J4.4 site to J5, and updated all Hot Joomla extensions. When I go to edit a custom module, I cannot see the tabs. I see only small squares (see snapshot).

My default editor is Sparky Page Builder. When I switch to JCE Editor 29.50, it looks normal, but of course it's not the Sparky Builder.
I am good with all J5 server requirements, except PHP 8.2, which GoDaddy (the host) has not yet released. I'm using PHP 8.1, which should suffice.
Is there a Sparky update that I still don't have? Please advise. Thank you!

Hello,
Please download Sparky Page Builder v1.3.0 from here update.hotjoomlatemplates.com/pagebuilde...y_page_builder5x.zip and then install it to your site from System > Install > Extensions.
This problem is related to new Font Awesome v6 icons that are now standard in Joomla 5.0. We have fixed this problem in Sparky Page Builder v1.3.0.
Regards,
Milos
