k2 front end adding & editing

I am having issues using k2 on the front end. It really needs to work.

when trying to edit an item the tabs are going down the modal window, edits are not saved, the save button nor the cancel button work

I added a menu to add a new item to the front end but it keeps resulting in a 404 error page

front end editing is enabled, the proper group is setup and the use account is in the proper group

any ideas? other posts on the k2 forum are not resolved.

For j3.1 its important you login in front-end using k2 login module not joomlas defaut.This are instructions from k2 forum:

Check the following:
You have front end editing on in k2 paramaters
You have k2user module enabled and working. An Add item link should appear there when logged in with apporporiate rites (disable standard joomla login )
You have created k2 groups with rites to add items
Put your k2 users into the k2 group
if all of this is working, copy the link from k2 users "add new item" and create a new menu item with registared access pointing to that link
