Why k2 in almost all of the newer templates?

Hi, please tell me, why do you use k2 in most all of the newer templates? I don't know what it's good for me, don't want to lern and use ist it and don't want to explain k2 to my clients and don't have either the time to reconstruct it. Please have a look at http//pardun.net/onepage2 the template seems not to fit properly quite into the screen.

I see the Churchly template and it seams fine
