Dropdown Menu - Childmenu always shown

Somehow you don't have jquery on that page at all. Probably you did change something in index.php of template?

I made no changes to the index.php of the template - the only changes I made was via the template manager with regards to font and general layout of module positions.

I solved the problem though, by installing the jQuery Easy plugin.

That is most common problem , you need to have one and only one jquery reference , since template heas it that means you need to disable it in all modules and plugins. At end you can try some of jquery optimizing plugins.
