I) know this was an age ago but I cannot find where I change the contact details and fiddle around with the contact form, which btw not showing itself. the link is

Hello,

You can edit the contact component in Components > Contact.

Regarding the contact form, perhaps you have old template files. You will need to re-download new template files from our site and upload them.

The problem is that I have no Contact in the component menu, see attached.

Your Joomla is somehow corrupt and doesn't show full administrator menu. Anyway, when you go to this link, it should open the Contacts component:
