Shrink template posotions if empty

On my home page I have at the advert position a flash menu and one more module assigned. the flash menu is missing from other pages but the template is keeping a space for it even when it is not there. So the home page looks ok when the user scrolls down whilst the visual result with the white space is quite abnormal.
Is there a way to shrink the white space on the other pages so the look will be friendly and beautiful ?
