Site broken - won't display

Hello,
I've been trying to add a 3rd party image gallery to my site. It wouldn't display. in an effort to troubleshoot the issues, i changed the home page to a simple article. that didn't fix my issue, so i changed the home page back to what it was. now, the site won't display at all. how should i set the home page so that the site displays?

BTW, when i go to the site url, i get the following error message:


Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_regex_encoding() in /home/colestreet/public_html/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 68

Well there is not problem with our template. It's problem caused by 3rd party plugin and your server configuration. Please contact your server administration in order to enable mbstring in php.ini.

One thing you should do before that, is to check if permissions are set right. So, please make sure you have 755 for folders and 644 for files.

I did the nearly unthinkable and restarted the build of the site by restoring a backup. we lost much cutomization, but, we got it back up. An issue that was prevalent prior to the reported issue was that links added to the K2 items don't seem to work.

I checked the php.ini for the domain and found that mbstring.encoding_translation was set to 'off'. we reset it to 'on' and tried again. The link to a .pdf file still doesn't work when we click on 'READ MORE'. please look at it and let me know what you think may be the cause.

i think i'd be okay if you'd help me turn off the READ MORE on the K2 items list on the home page. i can put my own links in that will work. please advise.

And where did you put link for items in K2?
K2 items read more button leads to an item (article) full preview and can't be changed easily (requires some scripting).
