OK making more progress.
First, I went to install/uninstall on admin panel and uninstalled. Then went to manage folder in template manager and there were two fashion templates listed. Disabled them both. Then went to the server and and did a search for hotfashion. Deleted every file that appeared with a reference to hotfashion. Then did a reinstall of hotfashion. Then went to template manager and made sure hotfashion template was enabled. Then went to template manager and selected hotfashion template as my default. This ends up with a question which might explain much of the problem. On my reinstall when I went to template manager the version of hot fashion template still shows version 1. Is the new template for Joomla 2.5 still version 1? If it is in fact different than the original hot fashion template it would make things much less confusing if it were identified as 2.5. If it is the same that's fine, but confusing. I have a little bit of stuff to clean up but we seem to be very close to a new 2.5 site with Virtuemart 2.06. Much easier than a new site. Not perfect yet but light at the end of the tunnel. www.blackbeartrading.com/jupgrade

You could just overwrite it.

Is the "new" version of hot joomla template identified as version 1?

I understand that. The question is once installed does the 25 version show as version one in the template manager?
