Organizing Articles was created by jeffrothgeb
I need my articles on the front page to be organized by ending date. My site is set up as a promotional site for bars/clubs. I am using the front page article manager to have a list of events at the clubs.
My articles need to be in the order of the date of the event and organized so that the events that are closest in date are on top and the furthest away is on the bottom. How can I go about doing this?
I did use the Front Page Manager to manually sort them and that was going to work till I got the real answer figured out but now all of a sudden they will not sort correctly. They are sorted correctly in my Front Page Manager but not on my site. Please Help!
Also, please feel free to leave suggestions about my site. I am new to Joomla and loving it but having fun with the learning curve.

Thanks!

Try this:
1.Go to Menu > topmenu*
2.Click on Home
3.On the right side find Category order and Primary order
Category order: No,...
Primary order: Most recent first

Thanks for the quick reply. I took your advice and was able to find a way to make it work. I went and titled my articles by date using a number format. Then I sorted by date and it works for me.
I still with I could find a way to sort by the ending date of the article. This would make life easier so I wouldn't have to title all my articles with a date.
For anyone else having the same type of problem here is how I worked around mine.
Menu
Top Menu
Home Page
Parameters (Advanced)
Category Order - No, Order by Primary Order Only
Primary Order - Title (alphabetical)
I then titled all my front page articles like this 04-08-11 / Your Title Goes Here.
This will then sort all your articles by calendar date for you.
Thanks again for the help it is much appreciated,
Jeff

My work around only worked until I got to the new year.
Here is how I ended up doing it because I could not find the correct way to organize my articles.
All my front page articles are titled with a date first. See example below.
12-23-11 XXXX
12-24-11 YYYY
12-25-11 ZZZZ
01-05-12 AAAA
01-05-12 BBBB
This worked fine until the first of the year came. Now the articles with dates for January 2012 are on showing up before the December 2011 articles.
My goal is to always have each of my articles to be displayed in the order of the event date.
My parameters (Advanced)
Category Order - No, Order Primary Order Only
Primary Order - Title (Alphabetical)
Multi Column Order - Across
Pagination - Auto
Pagination Results - Show
Show A Feed Link - Yes
Can you please tell me how to get the articles to stay in the order of when they end? I do have the work around but when I get to next November & December I am going to have to deal with this all over again.
I am not able to add new articles because of this problem and I really need to get my events on there ASAP.

You have date in title but ordering treats that as string so you would have to change format when typing that to:
yy-MM-dd
because 0ZZZZZZZ < 1A
or change ordering to some other parameter.

Which parameter would you suggest. I can change the format of the date in title but it would be nice to just let the parameters do it.
Am I missing something someplace that I am not able to allow the parameters to order my events by that date I have determined for that article to end and drop off without having to do it by the title of the article?
I do not see the parameters offering the ability to arrange my articles to the I need them to be.
