I am not sure.

I did not change files, just switched menu types/default assignments in joomla... No direct php chaning, no css changing

Well changing menu type causes severe changes. Menu is no longer <ul> , it's <table> so it does not accept templates css. If you want to have menu like that you must provide stying of your own.

The thing is that menu itself is fine, styling didnt change. But the buttons module styling changed after switching menus.

Why don't you change html in custom module that holds html for that buttons. I think it's called buttons.

You must not change default menu item type (the one marked with star *). This menu type MUST be frontpage and must not have any items published (enter 0 for number of items).
