I think I may not be having the exact same issue here. In my case, the new template doesn't even show up in the template manager.

It worked fine on my 1.7 site, but this new 2.5 site is not working at all. I will submit a ticket and see if I can get some help to figure it out.

I just checked template installation on Joomla 2.5 and it works fine. Are you SURE you are uploading file hot_destinations25.zip into Joomla 2.5? Do you see the "25" in the file name?
