You just need to make the change I gave you in my last post and it will work. Make the font family to "FontAwesome" and do not make any other changes.

Sorry, I should have explained more clearly that I changed to "FontAwesome* in custom.css and it made no difference. Even if I make the change directly using Firefox inspector it makes no difference to the icons. However, if I use Firefox inspector to change to Arial and 2b then the icons display correctly as +. If I change custom.css to Arial and 2b then the icons remain unchanged. This seems to say to me that custom.css is not being read
Just to be clear, I am changing this file:
media/templates/site/ballet/css/custom.css
I am using Joomla 4.4.5, PHP 8.1.22 and HotBallet 4x.zip

Hello,
Yes, but on your website I still see the font family is 'Font Awesome 6 Free'. Please change it to 'FontAwesome'.
Your findings in the inspector about the Arial font are irrelevant here. I am trying to help you to use the Font Awesome and its arrow icon. If you want to use Arial instead of the icon, you can make this change.
Regards,
Milos

Thanks again.
I quoted the case of Arial only as an example of using another font - I do not want to use it.
I have changed custom.css to "FontAwesome" as advised in both sites - live and test site. They are respectively at jadance.co.uk and jadance.co.uk/test_site.
Having made and saved the change to custom.css (see section below), Firefox inspector shows the font to still be Font "Awesome 5 Free". It has not changed despite changing custom.css.
Section of custom.css:
.container_topmenu .parent > a::after {
background: none;
content: '\F078';
font-family: 'FontAwesome';
font-weight: 900;
top: 20%;
}

Hello,
On my computer, the Font Awesome arrows are there now, on both Chrome and Firefox browsers. You might need to clear the browser's cache. Also, your website does not have a proper SSL certificate. If you still don't see the icons in some browsers, this could be the reason.
Regards,
Milos

Thanks for your persistence and help. I cannot get it to work with FontAwesome but I have now got a "+" sign by using Arial 2b - it looks clunky but it is better that "F078".
