Thanks for this. The little squares are greyed out.

When I hover over the the squares, it says "please sort by order to enable reordering".

What bout in joomla 2.5

reordering doesnt seem to make any difference.

In Joomla 2.5 you also have to set the Article Order for the home page in the hidden menu to "by article manager order"
